The Key to your Heart!

(The inspiration for this post came from Marcel G. He had read “Spiritual Reflection” but said instead of looking in the mirror before leaving his house, he makes sure to never leave without his keys.)

We all know that it takes the matching key to open the matching lock. If you need to get inside your house then you unlock the front door with the house key. The same goes for a car, office, diary, locker, treasure chest, p.o. box, or anything else you need to access. So how do you get inside your own heart and mind? How do you REALLY get inside of your soul? Who holds the key to your own spirit? God. That’s right! To know yourself is to know God. In Matthew 16:25-26 (NLT) it says, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for God’s sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?” This is a powerful verse. It makes me think, how can you ever really know yourself if you don’t know God? Have you ever had that feeling of being lost? I don’t mean lost as in not having the right address, but more like not knowing who you are anymore. Sometimes in life we forget who we are or just lose ourselves completely. Have you ever lost or misplaced a key? Not a good feeling, right? We start panicking and try to look everywhere, even back-tracing our steps. We worry and stress about opening that lock without having the key. Then when you find it you get this calm feeling. (Big sigh!) You are then relieved. So just imagine what it must feel like to not have the key to your own heart. What do you do in a situation like that? Some people start looking any and everywhere: their job/career, streets (crime), sex, drugs & alcohol, school (education), casinos (gambling) and much more. Then what happens? They either become workaholics, thugs, promiscuous people, junkies, overly-stressed students, money-chasers, etc. Whether all you care about is your career or your next hit of crack, you still can’t deny the fact that you are lost. You can be a successful executive with billions in your bank account or a homeless drug addict living in an alley, but if you don’t seek God then it doesn’t matter who you are because you won’t even know yourself. It’s like having no soul. Whether you are a billionaire or a homeless person you will still be empty inside. Money, sex, drugs, education, success.. all these things might make you feel better but NONE can make you feel complete. Only God can. Being rich is not the key to everlasting joy. God is. Once you seek God, you will find yourself. God will make you whole again. There is no empty feeling with God. His love is not temporary, it is FOREVER! Do you know who you are, do you really know yourself? Do you feel whole & complete? No matter what you go through, do you stay strong & grounded? Now don’t you want to open your spirit? God unlocks our soul to that everlasting joy we deserve. Are you seeking God for the key?

Spiritual Reflection (by Valeria G.)

What is one of the things we do on a daily basis or before we leave the house? Well i can think of a few but the one that i almost never forget to do is look in the mirror. Come on, we all do it! Whether you’re brushing your teeth or fixing your hair or shaving your beard or putting on your make-up. You don’t even have to be vain or superficial. Looking in the mirror doesn’t necessarily make you “conceited”. I mean really, how many people can say they have never seen a reflection of themselves? Even mother nature has a reflection in the water! So with that being said, it only makes me wonder.. How many of us see our own spiritual reflection and how often do we check it? The mirror tells us the truth. It doesn’t lie and only shows us what is real. If you have a stain on your shirt the mirror will show you. If you have spinach in between your teeth, the mirror will reflect that as well. So just as we want to make sure that we look presentable, we should have that same desire to look into our spiritual mirror to see if what it shows is presentable to God. Sometimes it takes me a long time to get ready. I hit the snooze button on my alarm because I’m still sleepy, shower, pick out some clothes to wear and then put them on. I then look in the mirror to make sure I like what i see. If i can take a long time just to get ready then i should take time to dedicate to God as well. It is part of my growing relationship with my higher power. Whether it’s through meditation or through prayer or reading the bible or singing songs that praise God or writing in a journal of faith or going to church or whatever it is that makes me have a stronger relationship with God. As long as it makes me like what i see when looking through a spiritual mirror. That way i know my spiritual reflection is presentable to God. So the next time you see yourself in the mirror, ask yourself what does your reflection look like in God’s mirror?

So true..

In quotes on March 11, 2012 by MagicShines Tagged: , , , ,

“Babies created from light, born into the dark, looking for some kind of brightness, growing and progressing only to find our way back to the light. OR… Babies created from dark, born into the glow of light, looking for a brighter shine, growing & progressing only to find our way back to the dark.”  No matter how you look at it, whether from a light or dark perspective, from start to finish all we are doing is searching & yearning for that brightness, that brighter shine =)
